Poem of the Day

Richard Cory
BY EDWIN ARLINGTON ROBINSON
Whenever Richard Cory went down town,
We people on the pavement looked at him:
He was a gentleman from sole to crown,
Clean favored, and imperially slim.

And he was always quietly arrayed,
And he was always human when he talked;
But still he fluttered pulses when he said,
“Good-morning,” and he glittered when he walked.

And he was rich—yes, richer than a king—
And admirably schooled in every grace:
In fine, we thought that he was everything
To make us wish that we were in his place.

So on we worked, and waited for the light,
And went without the meat, and cursed the bread;
And Richard Cory, one calm summer night,
Went home and put a bullet through his head.

Response: I like how he used sensory imagery to make him seem like more of a king and show how everyone looked up to them. He used alliteration in the story also and made the lines seem more interesting. I think one of the themes could be like you can’t buy happiness and that money isn’t the only thing in the world. The author also made the rhymes sound really good with each other and made a kind of rhythm.

Book Review of:A Blaze of Glory

     If you wanna feel like you’re blazing a path through history,then A Blaze of Glory by Jeff Shaara is the book for you.Its an amazing story story about the Civil War and the struggles they went through.

    General Grant was an important character in the Civil War and had won many battles for the Union.General Grant also had a staff officer,Captain Rawlins,who provided items such as maps and other items.At one part of the book General Grant asked Captain Rawlins for a map of the area south of them so he could study the terrain.

     The most interesting part to me was when it talked about the hardships the soldiers in the Union Army faced.With the lack of supplies and the terrible food they had.It connects to me because i think of all the hardships I faced and realized that I’ve had it easier than those soldiers.

      If you’re into history and what to read and want to read an amazing story about it.Then you should blaze your path through A Blaze of Glory.
